LotusEater, Mars bars are exactly the same as our Milky Way.
I grew up in Canada and now live in the US. It's definitely the same thing, re-branded.
Your wife's friend should tell her Canadian supplier to trade the Mars for more ketchup chips. She can Sharpie "Mars" onto her Milky Ways and feel Canadian...

Mars bars used to be standard in the U.S. I haven't seen them in a while, but I don't eat many candy bars. They are real mood lifters. At some point in my working life, I'd dose myself on one Snickers bar every day to beat the mid-afternoon slump. I like Twix and Milky Way, both of which we got in miniature in our Halloween candy. My all-time favorite is Reeses, and most especially the version with dark chocolate.
Baraboo Candy in Wisconsin makes Cow Pies which are similar to chocolate turtles. I haven't had one in years.

I remember the Mars bar from years ago...with the almonds.
We used to get Mars bars with Almonds, in a different package. I haven't seen those in ages. Our Mars bars are nougat and caramel.

PS Have you ever seen how many different flavors of KitKat bars they have in Japan? My 10 year old niece wants to visit Japan just for the KitKat bars.
