There is some basic ideas (not rules) around a 'blend' made up of a lot of different leaf benefitting from being smoked in a wide chamber, as you are more likely to get all the leaf flavours smouldering at once...

For rather expensive blends rich in Latakia or sweet Virginia’s or a Va Per, I want the biggest bowls I own.

I like aromatics in small to medium sized bowls, where I can sit one down and relight it later.

I think the blenders of luxury tobaccos use big, expensive pipes to develop the blends.

Maybe a master blender does sit around chugging on a Dr Grabow while he’s developing Olde London Towne Luxury Navy Anniversary Pirate Kake Special Selection, but I don’t picture that scene in my mind, you know?

Hoosier,
What bowl size do you like to smoke your Vapers?

ps--dang, i'm jealous, Grandpa!
I smoke most Flakes in bowls with ID of .75 to .80. I find English blends and/or more complex blends benefit from larger bowl ID. Tapered bowls seem to do well with Virginia blends, especially red virginia.

I opened a tin of 11 or 12 year old HOTW couple of weeks ago. A bit bland in Flake pipes, tried a larger ID bowl and it opened up a ton. Go figure. Experiment and see what works for you.

I'm no expert, but when I smoke a English mixture I get a lot more flavor in my larger briar bowls than in my smaller meerschaum pipe. This can be debunked by my subpar smoking pallette, I might be able to get the same flavors from my meerschaum. But now I would confirm the notion that a mixture of several tobaccos is best smoked in a wide bowl. I didn't try any flake or ready rubbed in a briar yet, my present briars are I think 2.5 hours smokes on flakes, but I could fill it half.
