I brought ffishing gear, and the weather was unseasonably beautiful. But we were having such a smokathon we plumb went right through lunch and ended up closing down Boswell's. So there was not much time to check out the trouts by the time I grabbed a bite.
Al brought doughnuts and his wife baked some fantastic cookies, some of which came home for wifey to enjoy too. There was plenty of coffee, also courtesy Al, and then Gail Boswell when that ran out. Next time we get together, I'll get the dougnuts/coffee. Boswell's is a must to visit for any piper - a huge amount of history and knowledge there and multiple lounges to puff away.
I'm still puzzled at Al's taste profile, since his Old Dublin that he gave me was normal and very tasty as always. Likewise for the Bonifiglioli 43rd Anniversary, though I sense Al hasn't progressed to Latbombs yet. Next meetup, I'll bring another array of Lats to scope out his palate further. But how can you love Dunhill 965 and like Gordon Pym and not OD? A puzzlement.
Sure also enjoyed comparing Peretti tales, since I go there several times a year and was just there the week prior. It was funny that I knew enough about their byzantine ways to give Boston native Ryan/Brian some tips. He'll be on my call list next time I get up to Beantown for some serious delving into Peretti's bodacious and manifold blends as well as their considerable open stock of Gawith Hoggarths.
Jim was across the room and busy buying pipes, so we didn't get to chat nearly as much. I was busy sampling my way through Boswell's Virginias and Latakias, though maybe that's no excuse.
Looking forward to the next roundup, and I'll twist some arms locally to participate. Thanks Al for pulling this together, and to Brian and Jim for the long drives they made. I thought I would be the longest distance drivein.

Sorry, Les, I missed your post (it looks like the email notifications for favorites is not working again). I'm sorry you didn't get to fish, but we sure had a time, eh? I probably can't make your Jan 23rd Philly meeting, but hopefully it will work in February.
I appreciate the introduction to MM965 and Chelsea Morning, I'm slowly stocking up on both.

There's no question that we have to do this again, and hopefully some of the other guys who didn't make it last time will be able to come. When I told one of the employees at my local B&M about our gathering he twisted my arm into agreeing to ride down to Boswell's with him on our bikes, maybe sometime in June. I do have to admit that it didn't take a very hard twist!
FWIW, I'm up to meeting at other places as well. Hopefully Ryan will be able to join us again somewhere. Les, maybe we'll be able to hook up some time at the monthly NJ gathering at JR's, assuming that you're a regular there and that I can get a Thursday evening in NJ (I'm usually traveling home from Harrisburg on Thursdays). And Al, if you're driving through NNJ and might have a bit of extra time PM me and perhaps we can hook up for a meal and a smoke somewhere.
I'm sorry I have little to offer in the way of tobacco samples or suggestions. I've always been an aromatic smoker, while you guys seem to lean toward the non-aros. Since our meeting I did get a tin of Orlik, and I'm liking it. While it's not a strong tobacco, it's stronger than what I've become accustomed to and so I only smoke it when I have nothing to attend to immediately afterward.

Les,

You really get around, between las Vegas, Boston, Chambersburg, where next??? Thanks for sharing your experiences at Boswell's. It used to be an annual stop for me on the trip home from the Richmond pipe show. They don't get any better than the Boswell clan for sure. Years ago they sold a blend called Royal English? that I loved and still have a couple pounds stashed away.

Nasty cold here in Maine this weekend, but it didn't stop me from stopping in at the Orvis outlet to check on a few nice Flyrods!!!!
