lasttango sent me a box of four primo tobaccos and I'm on my second one, my first bowl of Peretti's #52 burley blend. Most impressive. Like most blenders, Peretti is not itching to divulge all of the details of how they attain their individual blends, but it seems that this is an especially precise blend of various burleys done with a master's hand. It's nutty, sweet, subtle and evolving through the bowl. It's refined and sophisticated without being fussy. It has that warm friendly comfort-food aspect of burley but reaches beyond it for complexity and savor. lasttango especially recommended this one, and he was right.

Wow - I'm smoking that RIGHT NOW as I read your words! #52 is a terrific burley forward blend. I love Peretti's blends - most all of them (not so crazy about No Name, though).
I am especially fond of Thanksgiving Day, so I stocked up and stored a bunch. Omega and Tashkent are also favorites.

MSO, I am glad you enjoyed that one. My power went out 3 days ago and just came back on today at noon. I have been a popsicle for a few days. #52 kept me going during the day. Typhoo + PG Tips + Gimme Coffee! to drink and #52 from dawn to dusk.
Peretti's are currently "experimenting" by bringing back blends they haven't made in 10-80+ years. I hope #52 gets some more love so it can be here to stay. I am also excited to see what else they bring back.
Jerry, Original Blend and No Name have that "Lakeland" type flavor. Floral and perfumy. I happen to enjoy them a lot. I know I am in the minority; but heh, my taste buds just like it.

Yeah, I jumped on the #52 bandwagon and like it so much that I also ordered #8 Slices, Tashkent, Omega and Royal. There is a common flavor that they all share which must be a topping of some sort. They are all very enjoyable tobaccos!

I'm intrigued with Thanksgiving Dinner as an example of how "real tobacco people" do an aromatic, and get the flavorings to weave into the tobacco taste and bring it up rather than coat it over. It's a little surprising how handily this can be done. Other good examples I like are Iwan Ries Three Star Blue, which is essentially an English blend with a slight aro undertone, and Edward G. Robinson which is a mild tobacco with a nice flavor accent. Peretti really has a good touch with Thanksgiving Dinner. I've gotten to like quality aros in rotation, that I find accent non-aromatics all the more when I go back to those. The contrast emphasizes the qualities of each.

So far, every time I try a Perletti blend I've been impressed. When I saw that Blend #52 was being re-released as a limited time blend I had to give it a try. Glad I did. First impressions are very good - smokes beautifully to a clean ash, tastes great, and has an old-time-pipe room note. A winner in my opinion!

bigtex, I just read your review of Peretti's #8-- how can one resist enthusiasm like that? I just put in an order with them for some samples, #8 included.
mso, your endorsement was intriguing, so #52 is one of the samples, too.

You can't go wrong with #52 either. It's pretty amazing on it's own.

Here the back story on 52 and Thanksgiving
http://www.ljperetti.com/blog/
I have been enjoying Thanksgiving-I notice a chalky taste. Anyone think Thanksgiving is an aromatic twin of the firms Cuban Mixture?

I bought a baggie of it, and immediately ordered two 8 ounce paint cans after smoking the first bowl. It's that good...

I've never been let down by Peretti. I've been on the fence on trying #52, but if one bowl will convince you to buy a pound, I think a paint can or two of it is in my future.

Peretti sent an email announcing 52 and I ordered a pound. It has proven to be well worth it. No. 8 is still #1 Peretti blend for me.
