So beans and toast is an English staple (and different than the sweeter bbq baked beans that are someone in the US, although the US version works).

My father didn't cook much, but one of his staples was bbq baked beans (typically with some ground beef, like Cowboy Beans), then covered with shredded cheddar cheese, topped with canned biscuits (sometimes also covered with cheese, and baked until the biscuits were done.

Simple, good, and filling while checking the Midwestern "boxes" of cuisine.

It most certainly is. My preference is Heinz only baked beans with a knob of butter added.

Poured onto two or three slices of hot buttered toast with a few splashes of Tabasco & much grated mature cheddar cheese to top it off.....heavenly.

My Great Grandfather, who was Welsh, would tell us that pintos and cornbread was an English delicacy. When I got older, especially after I had visited England, I realized that he was just trying to get us appreciate the meal. But, I bet the whole beans and bread thing was probably an English thing in his mind.
