Thank you all for the excellent advice! Not sure what route I’m going to take with this one yet. But I’m well on the way to figuring it out with the suggestions here.

Ouch! I'll definitely avoid the boiling water treatment. My first inclination with chatter is the flame (which you tried) and if that doesn't give me the results I want (and it usually doesn't) then I resort to sanding and micromesh.

Been restoring pipes for more years than I can imagine... Mortamyhr, the hardest lesson to learn in the restoration learning curve is When To Stop... this is as good as it gets for this piece.,. I still re-visit this lesson.

But, you see what just a little bit more can do.

Lesson learned... congratulations :)
