I also didn't get much chocolate flavour from Bob's, mostly just on the charring light for the first few bowls out of the tin. I got more chocolate out of the Sam Gawith Chocolate Flake so that was what I went with to stock up on. But that said even the SG the flavor sort of wafts in and out.

If you want a decent chocolate taste with solid VA and Lat base I also recommend trying the Two Friends English Chocolate, I am working through tin right now and it's quite good. I will definitely buy some more to scratch the chocolate itch when needed.

That said, Gawiths base tobaccos are always quite good so even if the topping is light they are always a good smoke.

I've added Two Friends English Chocolate to the next shipment. I do feel like actual chocolate translates well into the tobacco world. LL-7, in the right pocket, tastes like hot chocolate. I think I'm going grab Cobblestone as well as a $!2 experiment to give them a whirl.

I can't do candy-coated tobacco, so I'm not looking to satisfy my sweet tooth. I just remember the overtone and the aftertaste of Bob's being dark unsweetened chocolate. It was fantastic. It reminded me of baking.

I've smoked enough BCA over 20 years to know that batches can be different. But this batch of Bob's was a different experience. I expect that this blend will sit in the jar longer than the last batch did, and I'll see how it develops.

If so, what could the reason conceivably be?

Supply chain issues for the sauce
Lack of employee training
Lack of employee morale
Poor QA/QC
Desire to re-blend
Manufacturing or storage issues
Cost cutting

That's just off the top of my head - feel free to brainstorm other reasons why it may be happening. Again, I don't care why it is what it is, but with the assertion from the company that nothing has changed accompanying equal assertions from consumers that something has (including my own experience), it's like the loss of quality in many K&K blends - I'll blow through the cellar to ride it out and continue to purchase blends that have not changed for the worse.

I do hope they figure it out - I bought that 500g of Coniston for a reason and was sorely disappointed. I've got about an ounce left of some from just a couple years ago that is heavenly.

I think that they are holding back on the sauce because of decades of us complaining about how much damn sauce that they've been drenching their tobaccos in. This is probably smart to get more smokers to try them, because who wants a tobacco so heavily laden with sauce that you forget that you're even smoking a tobacco. But, the side effect is that the long time GH users have grown accustomed to not tasting as much of the tobaccos, and they complain. My $0.02 is that these folks would complain regardless.

I might actually try these all again. I seem to remember loving the tobaccos that they use, just not the antiquated perfumes that they drenched them in.

I love bobs choc, I also the think the name is a little misleading. The latakia is more apparent than chocolate to me, but I really like it. I think of the choc as cacao, rather than candy.

Yeah I was expecting candy but it’s definitely more cocoa.
