Blocked from the UK. Really only useful for JimInks clues to blends and updates to them as they change, and a breakdown of blend components (not universally accurate).

Blend preferences are so personal and subject to change over time, the site was of limited value to me tbh.

Reviews have helped me to get an idea of what's similar to what I've already tried and liked and what I want to try next. It's subjective, but it usually gets me in the ballpark.

The reviews are sometimes better than nothing if Jim hasnt reviewed it. I get better information with the above search bar.

Yeah I’ve been blocked for a while too, from Canada, I have a good supply and know what I like, but Smokingpipes, YouTube, Online searches can all give you a picture too, if one needs.

I took a members advice here, and used Proton VPN worked and free on the App Store for Apple IPad, not sure about droid or PC. They do try and charge you, but click the X on the top right and it lets you through free, minimize symbol…

George Orwell’s 1984, Im about to get black bagged for this post, remember me, lol

STG may believe that they are legally obligated to block tobacco sales information from certain parts of the world. I get it.
Yes and corporations are very lawsuit averse, and gutless these days, so probably just take the safe road at every turn. I’d be surprised if they were informed by governments to geo-fence, probably more their own lawyers, but who knows.

No, it’s part of the EU shit. I don’t blame them. Flaunting the regs is just begging for multiple suits for a major corporation with deep pockets.

I was thinking EU could be responsible too after, they are pretty anti-smoking, but as for other places like Canada Australia, it would surprise me if their governments are aware of a random pipe tobacco review site, not likely, and whether it could be easily tied to advertising, I don’t think so. And even if they could withdraw it then.

Yes it’s just them playing it safe more likely, too safe.

Despite my strong differences with how STG conducts itself, if I ran the zoo, I’d do the same. There is a workaround.

Censorship issues aside, I suspect that many of the reviews on TR and every other site may be AI generated. Just for fun, I asked Chat GPT to write a review of Escudo (specifically asking it to compliment STG):

Escudo Navy De Luxe Pipe Tobacco Review

Escudo Navy De Luxe is a premium Virginia and Perique blend that stands out in the world of pipe tobacco. Manufactured by Scandinavian Tobacco Group (STG), this blend offers a rich, well-rounded smoking experience that showcases the quality and craftsmanship STG is known for. Escudo is a favorite for its balance of flavors, smoothness, and complexity.

Appearance & Aroma:
The tobacco comes in pressed coin slices that are easy to prepare, either by folding or rubbing out. The coins are dark and rich, with a slight oiliness to them, signaling the quality of the leaf. Unlit, Escudo offers a deep, inviting aroma, with notes of tangy citrus, spice, and the earthy sweetness of the Virginia tobaccos.

Flavor:
Escudo Navy De Luxe is an excellent blend of the natural sweetness of Virginias and the spicy, fruity complexity of Perique. The Virginia provides a smooth, sweet hay-like taste, while the Perique adds a mild peppery kick and a slightly fruity undertone. The combination is rich, flavorful, and smooth, with just the right balance of sweetness and spice that makes each puff interesting without becoming overwhelming. It’s an ideal blend for both experienced smokers and those new to Perique.

Smoking Experience:
Escudo burns evenly and slowly, offering a cool, dry smoke with a medium strength that never feels harsh or too strong. It requires only a few relights and burns cleanly to the bottom of the bowl. The smoke is smooth, with a creamy texture and a satisfying flavor that lingers pleasantly on the palate.

Ratings:

  • Strength: 3/4 – Medium to strong; delivers a solid nicotine hit but remains smooth and comfortable.
  • Flavoring: 1/4 – Natural flavoring, with no added toppings or casings; the focus is on the quality of the Virginia and Perique blend.
  • Room Note: 3/4 – Pleasant and spicy with a slightly sweet aroma, which is well-received by most.
  • Taste: 4/4 – A beautifully balanced and complex blend, with natural sweetness from the Virginia and a subtle spice from the Perique.
Conclusion:
Escudo Navy De Luxe is a standout blend that exemplifies the exceptional quality of Scandinavian Tobacco Group (STG). Known for their precision and commitment to crafting premium tobaccos, STG has created a balanced, flavorful, and satisfying experience with Escudo. It’s a must-try for any pipe smoker who enjoys the combination of Virginia and Perique. If you’re looking for a blend that offers depth, smoothness, and complexity, Escudo is a top-tier choice. Highly recommended for both beginners and experienced smokers.
