Yeah, I believe I saw one off base for around 7 bucks. I will check that little shop again next time I pass by there.

Ok, so I broke down and picked up one of pouches of CB white. After two bowls,I'm starting to get it. Sure the taste isn't life changing. Sure the nicotine is fairly low. But the room note, well yard note here, is nice, very pleasant, and there is no bite at all straight out of the pouch. Definitely a smoke to have around. I could easily sit here and go through bowl after bowl without scorching my tongue or offending my wife's sense of smell. Not to mention, it burns very cool. I like it, thanks Pups.

I know exactly what you mean. On the one hand, I do like the finer things in life, I can spend hundreds on dinner and wine, and think it's fantastic, but I always feel I'm missing something
Years of eating vindaloos, drinking strong drinks and smoking strong tobaccos have however, left my tastebuds completely and utterly shot, to the extent where it has to be strong in order that I can taste it properly. Unsophistication is better. Rough strong tastes do it for me.

I don't have a very sophisticated palette either. I can tell you if a tobacco is tasty or not and speak in generic terms of flavor. Sweet, bitter, salty etc. When wine, cigar or coffee tasters talk of all these nuanced flavors it sounds good to me but I seldom if ever taste cocoa, cedar, fruit, espresso etc. If it tastes good I smoke it if not I don't. I don't believe I've ever done a review as to me it takes a more sophisticated palette for me to do so. However I have written a few discussions of my experience with some blends and just say they are damn tasty.

I know, right? But on the other hand, I like reading them because as soon as someone more sophisticated than me identifies "peppery" or "leathery latakia" or "lemony," etc., all the sudden I can say, "Oh yeah! NOW I can taste it."
Salty. That's about the only one I can come up with on my own. But then I don't know whether it's the tobacco or a bit of leftover from the last freshening I gave the pipe.

I enjoy the reviews as well. It helps me to say, "I know I will like that" which helps in the ordering dept.

Between the Heart of Alabama and Hot Springs NC
Here in Alabama, they tax the crap out of alcohol, but not tobacco. When I went to visit Arizona, I was amazed that you could buy alcohol in convenience stores at cheap prices, but yet tobacco was ridiculously over taxed.
Here, you can only buy alcohol in special stores that don't have windows, just in case your preacher drives by
Here, cigs are still about $3-4 a pack. I can't say exactly how much alcohol runs, because I've never been in those type of stores.

I like beer. (period) (the locally made brew, Moosehead, and Alpine)

And to those who don't like beer, they just haven't found the beer that they like, just like I have had beer that I don't like.
When I was younger I was turned off Oak aged whiskey, or is that bacardi? Whatever the case when it goes in reverse it tastes bad forever. Just like brussels sprouts with pepperoni sticks while coming down with the flu.
(Beer is still awesome coming up for some reason)
But the alcohol consumption untill I am sick days are far behind me, moderation is far more enjoyable, but then I can drink a lot more now than when I was younger.
Now, pipe tobacco, only ever tried one so far, Balkan Sasieni and I love it. I ordered some Brown Bogie and Dunhill Nightcap in bulk, will see how she goes.

(with beer of course)

Yep, conlejm, that's it exactly.
And for me, the bliss of unsophistication is ... I like it ALL! -- but especially the free stuff. Never met free tobacco I didn't like.
:)

Well put! Reminds me of a quote from a book I read many years ago; I think it was The Millionaire Next Door: "I drink two kinds of beer ... free, and Budweiser".
