I couldn't find C&D perique available, but I ordered some from Sutliff to play around with.
Inquiring minds want to know.Packing up the cellar, which is a lot of work. I think i may have more than I thought I had, because I keep finding boxes in the closets. But part of what turned up are the jars of Perique that Mark Ryan sent me as a gift and among them is dark fired Perique. Since I'm transferring all the jars to Mylar before the trip I thought I'd sample it. It's like smoking barbequed Perique. Very interesting flavor profile and I wonder what blends used this stuff.
Absolutely! D&R Blender's Bench 10 year matured Perique. Also Percy Martin Jewel Of St James Perique tobacco. Both are in the hard to find category as they're no longer made and long sold out, but it's out there if you look hard and wide enough.
I haven't tried the Torben Dansk, but neither of the aforementioned blending Periques available to the public at retail are going to give you anything close to what the D&R or Percy Martin give you in terms of fruitiness.
Aging whatever blending Perique you can find may increase the fruitiness.
Rimboche AB uses it, I love it.Packing up the cellar, which is a lot of work. I think i may have more than I thought I had, because I keep finding boxes in the closets. I was surprised to hear that the Rimboches were OOP. Great blends. Fortunately I've got poundage of them.Rimboche AB uses it, I love it.
Edit: Used it, past tense. Sad.
Speaking of, are there any downsides to buying whole leaf perique? Sounds tempting but I don't know what I don't know.
Wives are generally not appreciative of the smell of large quantities of perique, dark fired, or Latakia. Other than that, there are no downsides.Speaking of, are there any downsides to buying whole leaf perique? Sounds tempting but I don't know what I don't know.
Would the quality be comparable, better, or worse than getting Sutliff or C&D perique?Wives are generally not appreciative of the smell of large quantities of perique, dark fired, or Latakia. Other than that, there are no downsides.
At least comparable, although I haven't ordered a whole pound of their perique yet, samples friends shared were great.Would the quality be comparable, better, or worse than getting Sutliff or C&D perique?
