I'm too lazy to purchase whole leaves to cure, shred, or any of that, so I simply purchase bulk blending tobaccos such as different varieties of virginias, burleys, latakia, etc., etc.,

All depends on your tastes in commercial tobacco blends I suppose. For me, I love Va/Bur/Per, so for myself I would look for a solid VA foundation(Red and or brown), and add condimental portions of perique and kentucky.

I bought a few pounds of leaf about a year ago. Two months later the bag of Virginias sprouted tobacco beetles. Never again.

Think about what you like. Also, think about what you like, but lacks something to make it special, and what you might do to make it special for you. Have a plan, and structure a blend with the kind of tobaccos you like in percentages you think you'll like. Always make very small batches, then let them marry for a couple of weeks.

Write down everything you do. if you make something that's close, you can tinker with the percentage of whatever tobaccos you need to to get closer to what you really want. Trial and error is a great teacher.

Most of all, smoke every varietal you get straight so you'll understand their properties before blending.

^^^ This! Besides, you'll be surprised at just how tasty some components can actually be when smoked on their own. But remember also, that some of those components might be quite high in nicotine. I personally recommend a clay or small meer for testing components.
