For the last two years, I have traded the Chicago Pipe Show Throwdown contest samples for something I prefered more. I am not a lataka fan. I am glad that others can enjoy what I would not. Blackhouse is the winner of the first contest.

Its good to see that the BlackHouse is not for everybody. That means less competition when it's in stock. I hope someone can get you one of the blends that you're looking for.
Just one question tho, did you smoke a few bowls of it before deciding that its not for you?

Yes, I smoked about 3/4 of an ounce in several different pipes and it just doesn't do it for me.

Ya same for me. I smoked the whole tin. Like I said, it is just baccy, but.... I can really see how it could be a favorite for many ppl. It is very flavorful and relaxing, just a bit over the top for me

How did it compare to the new release Balkan Sobranie? I've tried them side by side and didn't care for the Sobranie, but Black House was great. I can see how it might not do it for some. If you're looking for a BIG Balkan, I suggest Capt. Earle's Ten Russians.

Blackhouse is a good blend. But This site HYPES it up. Its a steady all day blend but it's noting special. It's like 1Q for the English lover. Uninteresting simple blend. Nothing special comes from it. Better things are out there.

Flyfishin I could say the same about Penzance...I don't get the hype and I found it to be boring, thankfully I don't have to go mad searching for what I enjoy. To each his own.

Please don't base a comparison with the new Balkan Sobranie with BlackHouse. BlackHouse was created as an attempt to get as close as possible to a 20+ year old sample of Sobranie 759, which was a deeper and slightly bolder blend than the Original Smoking Mixture.

I liked Blackhouse but it is not Russ' best blend for me. If you want something with more flavor in the lat/oriental category try his Larry's Blend or Magnum Opus. The only problem I have with Larry's is that a pound does not last very long.

Blackhouse, like tattoos or your favorite football team or your favorite scotch or other liquor of choice will have its devotees and those who aren't as big of fans. I haven't tried it yet but several of the people on this site who's tobacco opinions I respect, have said its good, so I will try it. Like it or not, when I've tried it, I will be richer for the experience. Russ has a good batting average as far as I can see, so I will go for it on my next TAD order and perhaps I will become a Blackblood - if not, I still respect the opinions of those who are.
