Black Frigate—Mold?

I would agree this is not a C&D issue as noted by the poster. Its unfortunate that it happened, but not C&D's fault on this one.

It's likely the mold was introduced much later after opening.

That be my thinkin' as well. The only mold on my ship be the Cap'n and her crew. :rofl:

Anthony, I know how much you love Black Frigate as all pirates do! :worship:Yes, I have been slowly enjoying it like pirates gold. However, I only open it to fill my pipe and never leave the top cracked after that. I keep it in a coolidor with the rest of my mason jars. I do, however, live in Louisiana where the humidity is extremely high. Given the environment, it is likely that it spoiled over time.
In any case, its more of.a reason to place another order :puffpipe:

I would definitely jar anything that won't be consumed within a few months. But i also won't be against removing the mold and a bit extra around the area and enjoying the rest of it. I only say this because it doesn't look like an infestation.

Well, 99.9% of molds are harmless to humans. I might be tempted to smoke it, also considering that most remaining spores would be destroyed by the fire. Decisions, decisions!

I think it's best to do this with any blend, unless you're going to smoke through it in a week or so.

Mold can travel quickly, and just because you can't see it yet, doesn't mean the spores aren't there and beginning to grow. I wouldn't risk it. A tin of tobacco is quite easily replaced. Trash it.

Not sure why you would keep sealed jars in a coolidor. Pipe tobacco is not the same as cigar and needs no type of humidor, maybe that is the source of the mold.

All my tins go into jars immediately after opening, and no mold in them yet. YMMV

Here in Louisiana the humidity is terrible and the heat is oppressive.
To keep the wife happy, I keep all my jars in my coolidor so that our guest bedroom doesnt smell like a tobacco factory.
In all honesty, the mold was a bit concentrated on one side of the BF.....so I broke off a chunk on the other side and smoked it. :puffpipe: Aside from my anxiety, the experience was quite pleasurable. I didnt get sick!!

I love C&D tobaccos but I do find that they are susceptible to mold. I found that if I picked out the offending pieces and let the whole container of it dry out a bit, the mold issue goes away.
