Why is it that americans are willing to kill each other over a 40$ BluRay player but not for any legitimate reason?
We have Black Friday sales up here as well, very crowded sure, but civilized at least. Picked up a new TV for Granny, store was packed, no pushing or shoving, and certainly no shooting.

I wish there was a Gold Friday. This would be a holiday sales event where everything was just expensive enough where NO ONE but my self would be out shopping. Yeah, I’d pay lots extra not to have to deal with shoppers lol.
That USED to be Christmas Eve? Back in the late 80’s/early 90’s I’d do my shopping on Christmas Eve.
I was literally the only customer in the Fox Valley Mall; whereas there were easily 6,000-7,000 in the days leading up to it.

Yes; the selection was threadbare, but I had run of the place. No one bumping into me, no mass crowds giving me claustrophobia, and sales staff were just happy to see a face to break up the monotony. Pure bliss. Of course family members were always curious why they got a snow globe, music box, Bob Evans meat and cheese platter, but they never asked, they just figured I was crazy/eccentric ?
My big mistake was in 1996. My co worker was complaining about the stress of Christmas, and I told him my strategy. That year, I saw her and a few other stragglers on Christmas Eve, but didn’t think anything of it. 1997.......? Place was PACKED. I had to park across the Street, all the lots were FULL, easily 8,000-9,000 dopes milling about. That was the end of my Christmas bliss, and I haven’t celebrated the holiday since?‍♂️ I skip family gatherings, tree events, etc. I turn off my phone, flip on a marathon of classic mystery movies and just zone out.
I like the idea of Christmas, but hate the actual holiday kerfuffal, the inevitable family arguments, the messes that need cleaning, the obligations to buy gifts for folks I hardly see during the year, the agitated store staff, the even more agitated customer base.
I do enjoy going out on Christmas evening, and checking out the lights. Roads are usually empty, so I can stop and look at my own pace.

Avoiding crowds in general is beneficial. In the days of yore when malls were the main revenue stream in retail, I figured out that holiday shopping could be accomplished most Monday and Tuesday evenings when people were home recuperating from work days after their weekends. The stores were all staffed up for Christmas shoppers, but the shoppers had stayed home. It worked well for about fifteen years. Right now I don't shop malls at all.
