BJ Long Quality: Have You Noticed A Difference?

I got some BJ Long cleaners earlier in the year. They only became available in the UK recently. I was looking forward to trying them as I've heard so many of the American lads talk about them. Sadly I was underwhelmed.
The Parker of London are very good quality, ditto the Dunhill ones, trouble is they're both double expensive.
I currently use the Denicotea cleaners, they're reasonably priced and great quality. I've recently been looking at some new ones made by White Elephant, the people behind the meerschaum filled filters. Haven't tried them yet though.

The quality on everything has been systematically going down the drain over the last years. Everything. Even pipes.
You could go 'full on' 19th century and just use a bird feather!

That's a rather far reaching statement. Please cite some specific examples of pipe quality eroding. And everything else for that matter.
Interesting thread. I've never been satisfied with other pipe cleaner brands. I find the BJ Long standard cleaner to be the perfect size for everyday use. I've not experienced any serious issues with excessive lint.
Same here. I found BJ Long pipe cleaners always work the best for me. I've been using them for years.
I also will look for loose fuzzies before hand, and wipe them off first.
Frankly I've always assumed there where two factories that make pipe cleaners and that most if not all brands are made in the same place. I have no reason to assume this. I just do. But no matter which pipe cleaners I've used there always seems to be a bum batch here or there. As in got to cleaner the cleaner before use. For most of my pipe smoking there wasn't a brand loyalty for cleaners. You got what was stocked and that was your option. You could buy cleaners or not. In other words not too picky about the cleaners. In fact until I smoked daily I used cleaners rarely. It starts making a difference when you smoke everyday.
I was always under the impression they were made of pin feathers from flying penguins.
I have one bunch of bj long extra fuzzy cleaners that aren't very fuzzy, big chunks of lint come off, and the ends are super sharp and scratch bent stems badly. Two other bundles of the same brand, same size package, bought at the same time, from the same vendor, are fine, no sharp ends no lint balls coming off.
this was my experience with all of them I've had. For the money I'll spend a few cents more on better pipecleaners.
