mlaug's tips are good. I'd add:
Remove the cooled bowl after each smoke and soak up any moisture inside the gourd with a tissue. Allow to air dry before replacing bowl. (overnight at least)

If any crud builds up in the crook of the gourd just give it a flush with some high test booze.
