There's always talk about birth year pipes, and having something from the year you were born. For those that find having a birth year pipe appealing, does that translate to anything else for you? Does a birth year watch or stereo have the same draw?

I have a Brigham that I think was made roughly around 1981 (Brighams are notoriously hard to date), and think that would pair nicely with a 1981 Scirocco.

I have a Felix the cat stuffed animal my dad bought for me right after my mom informed him she was pregnant with me. He's missing his bag of tricks and the bowtie isn't original but I'm glad I still have him. I think it's mostly because he's been the constant in my life for 43 years va oh hey look neat something from 1981. We're as I have a Christmas of 81 bbb pipe that's pretty neat to me for being a Christmas pipe from my birth year and my birthday being close to Christmas.

Not mine, I don’t feel like digging in the safe right now…1728355391469.jpeg

I wish I’d gotten my father pipes and more info on them prior to his memory being affected by dementia.
I believe one or two were bought year I was born, but will never know for sure now…

I think the contemplation that accompanies a good smoke, along with the knowledge that that pipe in hand was created in the same year and will likely be here when we are no longer, evokes a special smoke and is perhaps the perfect pipe for a special occasion. - Christmas Eve, New Years, a Birthday or a personal milestone.

An rare item that can actually be used is by far the best kind of collectible.

A couple of bottles from 1952 - a cognac (vintage is in the back label and inside the case) and a magnum of 1952 Clos De Tart which a mate opened on one of my recent birthdays (vintage neck label survived, but not the label - identified by the “key” which is all the remains of the label)

There are a few other bottles in the cellar. I will take some photos later

An Australian “Port”
A bottle opened last year was in excellent condition.

The maker specialises in fortified wines, and releases bottles of a 100year old port annually.
They have barrels from every vintage dating back to the 1880s in their cellars

And finally a couple of Bordeaux enjoyed at a lunch a few years ago.
1952 was NOT a noted vintage for the region, but these 2 bottles were not just drinkable, but enjoyable.
