I have been experimenting with 2nd chamber pipes that more closely resemble conventional pipes. Most have been bent, Danish-style freehands. Recently I took a stab at closely following the lines on my 1950 Dunhill LB Shell (the dark blasted on in the photos)and rendering them with a 1/2" diameter chamber through the shank. Two succeeded relatively well, I think while a third has a bad pocket of crud in the shank near the bowl which necessitated going to a bamboo shank. Another advantage of the hollowed out shank is a reduction in weight to around 38 grams. Please note that I have not begun to sell my pipes and have no plans to do so any time soon. I am still just playing and building skills. Any comments, observations or constructive criticism is most welcome.
