I have a 7-day set of 120's that range from 1924 to the 1970's, and covers all the finishes that were available during that time.

Also have a Sasieni VL from the early 1930's.

Wonderful pipes one and all. Recommended.

My favorite of the bunch is the Sasieni, though. 😍 Fantastic workmanship and execution, and the smoothest smoker.

Something I always found both weird and fascinating is the variability of the Dunhills' shank/bowl angle over their production years. No two quite the same. (go figure)
Do u have any picks of your Sasieni swan neck? Would love to see it

Another way to go: look for an early large bent made by a now-unfamiliar French pipemaker. They generally date from the late nineteenth or early twentieth centuries, pop up regularly in a variety of places, and can frequently be had for $100-175.

I found this one on Etsy for $128:

Since there’s no frame of reference in the pictures the size isn’t clear. The pipe is (as I recall) pretty damn big, clocking in at about 9 inches.

That is a real swan neck. The Sasieni , may be a great bent pipe , but not a swan neck. I think that the concept of swan neck have a more loose interpretation now than before. Now i see many regular bents called swan necks when before they were simple bents. That french pipe is a real one, Just compare it with the Sasieni. If you want to sell it , please let me know.

Here is a little earlier Sasieni; a little more pronounced neck (same model). I am still learning my shapes, so I’m interested what the standard is for a swan neck. There was a really good article about a billiard shape not too long ago that I had no idea the intricacies and nuances required to be considered one.
