Big city driving is easy so long as you have the nerve for it. The ticket is to stay calm, have ZERO distractions other than driving, and follow the signs. Being calm and careful is the most important thing. As a driver of ten years I have sat in traffic waiting for folks to get scraped up off the road because of a radio station change or simply driving like a fool.

Most of all, if YOU are not comfortable driving there then the advice to get close then use public transport is a sound one.

I drive in DC, NY and Philly with some frequency, so I'm used to the traffic. But, make sure you have a good GPS with an UPDATED map. I was in downtown Philly this week, to drop in on the Morleyson Pipe Club. My GPS map is not up to date and that buggered me up for a a few minutes until I got my bearings. If you decide to drive in/out of the city, just don't do it in the morning or evening rush hours, at least not for your first trip back.
