Yeah, a high percentage of those who smoke mainly latakia finally hit a wall, and for some reason it suddenly becomes distasteful. For some guys it happens quickly, for others it happens unexpectedly after decades.

Many switch to Virginia at that time, but if aros roll your socks up -- enjoy!

In my case, I was well aware of how common this is when I began to wonder if I was feeling the beginnings of it, so I immediately stopped smoking latakia for awhile in order to avoid burning out on it completely. My rule of thumb ever since has been to smoke latakia only when I feel a craving for it. This happens maybe once a month, and it has preserved my occasional enjoyment of it.

This is sound advice. For me, I have a craving for it after 2 or 3 non-Latakia bowls. I could smoke English every other day and feel like I’d get a lot of mileage over the years. But definitely agree that it’s best to take it in measured doses, even condimentally if possible. Heck, I’m starting to realize that a day or two break from the pipe makes ALL blends and genres taste better. However, only getting sick forces me into that program.

Yup. But I've had to employ the shoulda coulda woulda approach to some extent. Kids know to get rid of Lat blends here when I'm gone if the monthly bowl and future trades don't do the trick. So it's all is good.

I loved Latakias. Practically all I smoked.
Then a few weeks ago, suddenly I couldn't stand them. I made a switch to Black Cordial and Creme Brulee. Wow,I was in love again!
When I first picked up a pipe Latakia’s were my favorite. When I came back to smoking I couldn’t stand them. I did, on a whim, pick up an oz of Lane HGL which is an aromatic with a touch of Latakia and it’s become my aromatic of choice. The smokiness of the Latakia seems to carry the sweetness more than a typical aromatic and it’s also got a little more body to it. It might be worth a shot to throw in an oz on a future order and see what you think.

I also will occasionally throw in a pinch of Wilke Vermont Maple Cavendish when the mood strikes and that is an amazing combo

I kinda had the same thing happen, but it was a gradual thing. I still enjoy Lat in a medium english blend, but I can't tolerate a heavy Lat blend anymore. I always thought this was a very weird thing to happen. Still do. Just doesn't really make since, but we roll with it anyway. Enjoy whatever taste good to you!
