$75 or less gets you some quality estate briars on Tobacco Treasures - sponsor. Just one example, but save a little and get a decent pipe to start. Lots of ideas on where to look on here if you do a little nosing around!

What's the problem with the pear? If it's not a structural thing, could be your technique, finding the right tobacco, etc.?

May just be the tobacco. Couldn't wait for an online purchase pluss with all the charges it doubled the price.

Ended up at the only smoke shop in walking distance and its a wild bills.
Ended up with a bag of kentucky select red and premium wild bills vanilla Cavendish.

Pipe is a cheap free boy pear wood with charcoal filters.

Bowl is twice as deep as i had wanted but guess i can get used to it.

Had about 4 smokes so far and it seems to bite more.

Just not the pipes we had in the 70's 😂

Good new briars can easily be had for less than $100

If you are not averse to estates, SmokingPipes, Blue Room Briars and The Danish Pipe Shop have cleaned estates for under $100

While there are lots of bargain sub-$100 offerings on EBay, their condition is a lot more variable.
I would urge caution unless you are familiar with the vendors.
Or you are handy and comfortable cleaning used pipes.

You do not have to spend $$$ to get started
Feel free to PM me if you'd like some help

If you want new, Smoking Pipes EU has Peterson Irish Seconds that are good pipes - you can get a good one and have it shipped to you from Dublin for just about $70, different models for less than $100.

We bought a nice Irish Second for my wife's father while in Dublin over the summer - only so much I'm spending on him, lol (kidding).

Smoking Pipes here is having a sale on C&D, but plenty of other tobaccos to be had at a reasonable price, you could have 3 tins of good tobacco to try and a nice briar for $100 to $130 total, then it's technique!

Give yourself a fighting chance!

Just bought a pear wood pipe and its ok but not what i was expecting.

At the moment things are tight and finding a good smoking pipe for little money seems tough.

Any suggestions?
Thank You
Besides what already been mentioned Molina, Baraccini. and Balandis are good inexpensive pipes. I find a lot on eBay that I restore as well. Picked up some nice Savinellis doing that.

Cheap as possible but shortly maybe 100 or less.
You can find plenty of Savinelli's for under 100 and I've yet to come across one that wasn't a solid smoker.

But also check estate pipes as well. You can find some nice gems.

But also, don't count out corn cobs. They are between $5 - $35. Always good to have a few of those around.
