+1It's so subjective. There are many good tobaccos that have been mentioned but there are some that I can't stand. It doesn't mean they're bad obviously, just that I don't care for them. For example, Viprati has been mentioned several times. I wouldn't take a tin for free. So, it's preference.
My preference is for Rattray's VaPer blends. Marlin Flake and Hal o the Wynd (it has a little Kentucky leaf as well) are both great fresh. Now they both may need a few minutes to dry but they're good without any age. Don't get me wrong, they're better with a few years, but they're damn good fresh as well.
Any reason you avoid the DTM vapers?Maybe I sound like a broken record, but straight out of a sealed tin in a pipe? None of them! For me most of Va(Per) are to moist to smoke straight of the tin. Even what I have in a tin for a year or more has to rest on a paper towl for a bit or for longer in a jar.
Once rested and moisture is minimal I like HU Janneman a lot (while some think its spoiling of red VA when you add perique to it, I very much like it), Ascanian #1 & #2 (where I like #2 a bit more for the perique content % a bit higher, the orientals give it a tinge of sour note I like) and Peterson DNR.
I try to avoid DTM VaPers (Tjordenskjold Slices and St Bernard), but I don't like the DTM flakes in general.
Untill now I have a hard time to like any of the DTM flakes, the seem to taste "off" to me. The only one I like is HU Dockworker. The flakes are generally more like a "plug" or "cake" in the tin, the flakes stick together, are a bit harder to rub when fresh or with a bit more moisture. Maybe the sticking to each other and/or the " off" taste to me have some relation to each other, but I enjoy blends from K&K and/or Mac Barren more in general.Any reason you avoid the DTM vapers?
