Not sure what tobacco would be best, but as others have said, sometimes certain blends sing in certain shapes. My stubby pot I used to smoke VA's out of but when I had a bowl of GLPease Jack Knife PLug cut to a shag consistency, it was no going back. It now is reserved for that blend only. I also have some other pipes dedicated to Black Frigate, Sunset Harbor Flake, Stratford, Key Largo, and FIllmore. I have pipes dedicated to a certain family of blends as well. I know some don't do it, but I have enough pipes where I can.
This is pretty much my approach. Although I don't dedicate pipes to specific blends, I do dedicate blends to certain pipes when I find a winning combination, and I will dedicate pipes to certain genres that they smoke well. I generally believe a new pipe will tell me what it smokes best through experimentation. That said, if I had a new pot or other wider bowled pipe, I'd probably start out with Latakia blends to see how they do.

The Castello 55 is an interesting shape. I don't particularly love the way it looks, but like the Savinelli 320, its owners are so consistent with their praise that I may end up grabbing one someday just to check it out for myself.

Not every shape 55 is the same. I've seen bowl ID range from .75 to 1 inch. I think that's the biggest difference with respect to which tobacco may smoke best. Not everyone agrees on that point. If you have a shape 55, smoke what you like in it.
