What tobaccos have the best retrohale?
I observed earlier today to my delight that Dunhill The Aperitif has the smoothest retrohale i have ever experienced.. just beautiful. Not even a hint of a tinge or twitch. It really stood out for me how soothingly smooth it was.. So now, never having considered it before.. what made it so? A sublime blend, of course... puffy
What is your favorite?

I like a little bit of Wasabi burn 🔥
So I often seek out stronger blends or those with Perique just to include that sensation in the experience.
The title of this post is "Best" Retrohale. Which, for me, isn't necessarily the same as the smoothest.

I seem to get smooth from Latakia and Oriental forward blends. So, although I have not actually tried it, I imagine Dunhill Aperitif would deliver a smooth retrohale, just based on the component tobaccos.

I found SPC Plum Pudding to be quite smooth.

Most of them are pretty good. Just have to adjust to fit the situation. Squadron Leader was good today.

It depends on what you enjoy. I find English and Orientals have the most pleasant soft retro exhales, whereas the VaPers give you a slap across the face, especially if it’s a good aged one with a healthy dose of Perique.

You’ll know you’re alive if you retro a big puff of aged Escudo or Deluxe Navy Rolls 3/4 the way down the bowl when it gets intense.

That dissappears with just a few years of age and fades into dark fruit, plum, or bread.
But while the bloom is still on the rose of Perique, it is fantastic to retrohale.

I’m sitting here snorting back PS Luxury Navy Flake in my AAA Marxman gimmie pipe and I’m a lucky, lucky man.:)

(The pipe helps. If I could buy two dozen of those AAA gimmie pipes I might sell every other pipe I own.)

I think the best tobaccos for retrohaling are those that have the most appealing flavors and aromas to the individual smoker. For me, no pipe tobaccos or cigars cause any twinge or twitch, and I retrohale nearly every puff. Just speaking for myself, asking what tobacco is good for retrohaling is functionally the same as asking what I like to smoke. So I’ll answer fuller bodied VAs, VaPers, and either Nicaraguan puros or fuller bodied cigars with dark Ecuadorian Sumatra wrappers.

I agree.
I retro about every puff to some degree. And if I intentionally alter my puffing to not do so, I enjoy it far less. It feels immediately muted.
My sinuses are where the bulk of flavor is detected.
