I guess this is a 'fun exercise'. You could spend all day looking at pipes within the op's price range and come up with infinite suggestions that would likely result in satisfaction.

I will post just the first one that I encountered that 'grabbed' my eye, as well as to say that I hadn't seen anyone mention Meerschaum alternatives.

Tim West made this one. $180.00

Radice also too was not mentioned? $180.00

I just keep looking. Here's a carver I found who cuts his own stems and carves some nice wood.

Just a tad out of your high end range @ $250.00....better get this one before fishbanjo does.

I just bought my 7th & 8th Mastro Beraldi pipes. They fall into your $150 price range and I think they are better than Savinelli ( I also have 12 Savs). Each pipe is unique and their smoking qualities are flawless.

Here are the new ones.

If you're going for an estate, I'd look at Ser Jacopo at the price, and you might look at the SJ's new for about twice that, to see if you'd want to go there. It's a lot of pipe without selling the kids.

I'd add Tomossao Spanu to the list. If you look at Italian pipes from Italy, for example, with the dollar/euro rate minus tax you might do well.

Haven't seen Alberto Bonfiglioli mentioned yet, excellent stuff and around this price point.

It is assumed that you are talking new. But estate pipes from French manufacturers are a great value (Chacom is an obvious choice). Stanwell pipes are a great value as well. The artisan makers are obviously good choices but for way more money.

If you've got the nerve to smoke a dead man's pipes please contact our very own Pruss or Mike at Briar Blues. They'll square you away with, more than likely, a pair of damned fine, high end production burners that will fill the bill.
Start small and work your way up the ladder. Build a healthy rotation and then upgrade.
The journey is always the reward, bub.

The best pipe is exactly the pipe you feel like smoking. I have a Chacom and a Peterson and was in a similar position as you, with wanting to increase my variety.

Instead of spending the entire amount on a pipe, I found a wonderful Savinelli that left me plenty to order a larger haul of new tobacco to try out and explore.

I've smoked a 120$ pipe that to me smoked far better than another 300$ pipe.

Unlike cars where more expensive usually means better rides, with pipes it just isn't so.

I'd either get a ~100$ pipe and a bunch of new tobacco, or perhaps 2 75$ pipes.

I'd buy an estate in a heartbeat, in fact I would get two GBD's.
If you have to get new, my experiences:

Chris Askwith Hand Finished - outstanding pipe, he doesn't make many and they sell fast.

Trevor Talbert Ligne Bretagne (same price point as Chris A) - also excellent, but they sell out in a heartbeat, get his email and move quickly.

At $100, this Al Pascia Curvy has an incredibly high fit/finish level, if you like this style.
