I used to participate in a forum for songwriters & one section was for discussing lyric interpretations. Among the lyrics frequently discussed was the 1967 Procol Harum song, A Whiter Shade of Pale. Like most classic songs the writer is on record as saying the lyrics came to him quickly like a download, & that they are not about alcohol, drugs, overdose & death. Most refused to believe it:
The room was humming harder
As the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
The waiter brought a tray
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face at first just ghostly
Turned a whiter shade of pale
