What is the best GLP VA blend? I am really loving PS Luxury Twist and want to explore more VA, esp in flakes. Also might like some Orientals in the blend, or even a touch a Burley, but prefer something light on Perique, not too spicy. No latakia, got way too much of that!

My favorite is Laurel Heights. It has a microscopic smidge of latakia, but many people can't even taste it. But, it adds a nice chewy leatheriness to the Virginias.
Laurel is a good one, I agree.

Sort of like Fillmore, a few people feel like the wisp of Latakia doesn't belong but I think they are both great. I believe GLP said this is an old blender's trick to provide a little subtle enhancement to the existing flavors.

Taste is certainly subjective. I think of Telegraph Hill as a good example of a VaPer that’s right in the middle. In any event, the perique is always apparent but doesn’t overwhelm the Virginia
I agree with you there. I suppose that I think of it as getting a little stronger as the bowl progresses which I like. But it's not overwhelming at all.

Sounds like you want a Virginia blend with some oriental condiments..
Try Cairo and Embarcadero.
Cairo is awesome. It is nice from the start but it takes a few smokes before you really get it. If I reviewed it the first bowl I would have said it reminded me of a good high quality cig. After one 8oz can I'd say it's like smoking a Va and approaching a spice bazar. It's incensy and spicy like exotic middle eastern spices but more like a constant wonderful hint. Yeah smoke some Cairo and don't bother with the 2oz sample sizes they sell get the coffee can.

I had a very similar experience. It took finishing a couple of tins to really appreciate Cairo.

Embarcadero clicked from the very first puff. Amazing stuff, one of my most smoked blends.

I still remember shockingly clearly my first time smoking Cairo and enjoying it and thinking it was pretty good but in a very average not going to buy more should have got another tub of some other GLP blend. It was good it was quality but nothing about it screamed the usual GLP is a strange tobacco blending wizard who can do things no mortal is supposed to do. I thought if this was C&D I'd be pretty chuffed but oh well....
Then each smoke afterwards seemed to get better and better and more and more complexity slowly showed its self. Now it's a favorite and a legit top shelf blend.

I felt the same way about Cairo and Barbary Coast. I look at the tins I have left of these, and sort of shrug till I see something else that I prefer to open. Not to knock Greg. I am sure someone out there thinks its the shit and all the rage, but... not me. I really do love most of his other stuff though.

Barbary Coast or Sextant are the next ones I plan on getting. At this point Cairo is a favorite.
I haven't had a lot of his offerings but the few I have had are good enough I'd happily buy and try the largest size available of any of his blends.
