I used to smoke drugstore brands, twenty years ago, when I was in the Army. It has all but disapeared from store shelves here in central Virginia. I have been reading some posts about them recently and, hearing what y'all had to say "has done flung a craving on me." LOL So I began keeping an eye out. Yesterday I was in Danville Virginia, my job requires a bit of travel, around the state, and stopped at the Piggely Wiggely. I found Cap'n Black Gold (one of my old favs), Carter Hall, Sir Walter Raleigh, and Middletons Cherry (another old fav) for about $3.75 a bag.

I was amazed at how well they lit up and burned all the way through as well as the good smoke. The taste brought back old memories. Frankly, I thought they were on par with the more expensive B&M blends and tinned stuff I have been livving off of for years. I am glad I picked them up and may start adding them to my rotation regular. :puffpipe:

Sugar barel is under rated. I have to order it on line though. Captain black is OK if it is dried out enough.

After Balkan Sobranie was discontinued and before I could get on the internet I subsisted on pouches of MacBarens, any kind at all, that were sold in a now defunct local cigar & cigarette shop called Mom's Cigars or something like that. In the Flatiron district of Manhattan. Mom was a rather vivid senior personage who had wooden cigar store Indians surrounding the store, on the sidewalk. The MacBarens were always a little dried out & cost 50 cents. Sure miss Mom.

Carter Hall is probably my favorite. Followed closely by Sugar Barrel. Walnut is really interesting, unique among OTCs.
But Angler's Dream beats them all. And for the same price, you can't go wrong giving it a try.
