It turns out that the Best of the Rest isn't bad. I've smoked 6 bowls and I have enjoyed every one. I've had much better stuff.. this is a good value for sure at 16.99 per pound.

I can't speak to whether or not the bags are different each time.. I will post here after I buy another bag and compare the two.
Yeah dude. That’s insane cheap.

I've sampled three bags of Best of the Rest english.. to my taste, they all taste the same.

All three seem to be heavy on the latakia and mild in nicotine. That's really just what I was looking for. I've tried better english blends, logs sent me some Samuel Gawith Commonwealth Mixture and others to try. This was in hopes of convincing me not to buy "floor sweepings" haha and I appreciate his efforts, and enjoyed the blends he sent me very much.

The Commonwealth Mixture and Uhle's Bishop's Move that were included In the samples he sent, were noticeably and remarkably better than Best of the Rest.. I can't say exactly why, this could have been due to there being more latakia in those blends.. or a better quality of latakia. Also in that box was, Arango Balkan Supreme. That one was also very good and closer to the B.O.T.R, to my taste almost the same.. maybe its the inclusion of orientals that make this so.

I was looking for an inexpensive english blend to stock up on.. so that later I wouldn't wish I had. I don't smoke english blends often, and when I do they mostly taste the same. So for me B.O.T.R fits that bill. At $16.99 I would say its a very good "budget english". For those of us to have a lot of stocking up to do, and a short time to do it, I'd say this is a great choice.

I don't think anyone has mentioned Hearth & Home Midtown series Chestnut, a match to the discontinued Walnut. It has about six tobaccos, which could result in a rather harsh or muddy flavor, but is done with skill and goes together nicely. It is sold by the tub, but also for several years now, by the baggie, so you can sample it to see if you want a tub, for only six bucks or so. In rotation, a tub can last "forever," in a pleasing way.
I was going to suggest the Sutliff Walnut Match. Great stuff and cheap. I imagine it's much the same as the Chestnut. Only just tried it a few months back and I'm already reordering it. Wish I'd tried the Middleton stuff. Used to see it all the time on the shelves, never gave it a shot.

Also, would recommend the Balkan Sobraine Original Mixture match. One of my favorites of late. Frankly, the Sutliff Dunhill matches are pretty good too. And they cost like 8 bucks and change for 4 oz. Can't go wrong really.
