He is around on one of the other pipe forums. I don't think he ever forgave myself, John or Dan (Woodsroad) for what was done to his beloved War Horse Bar. In his mind it was the tobacco worlds equivalent of suggesting Eddie Murphy should be the next James Bond!

Now THAT is a Bond movie I would bother watching!

If you haven’t watched The Professor and the Madman I’d highly recommend it, it’s about the fascinating story of the OED origins.

Thanks Karam. I actually have the book (alternate title being The Surgeon of Crowthorne) by Simon Winchester upon which the film was made. If I ever saw the film was on TV then I would certainly watch it.

In fact my interest in the OED has got me several books about the story of its founding & of its history, all of them fascinating reads.

Bendigo is a town in Australia that had a gold rush in the 1850’s and ‘60’s, maybe the horse was named after that? As in, when the horse wins it’s like a gold rush? Just a suggestion.
