Big video, the one in the o.p.. Illustration of the pipe is at about 5:25, and is very good, and not long. Then a lot of talking.

Great engineering for a problem many don't have, nor the ease of cleaning the ceramic (?) bit. Or is that also the composition of the chamber?

Perhaps, but most are very awkward to safely deposit and retrieve a bowl or pipe. And no one is going to start a fire just to clean pipes when heat is not needed for the house.

Back when people cooked over wood or coal fire it would have been pretty easy.
For us, we have 2 wood stoves and from the beginning of December to the middle of April, one is always stoked or banked. We cook on one when we are a mind to do so. But I concede you are correct in your statement. I would not start a fire to simply clean a pipe. But, if I had a porcelain pipe, I might use it only during the wood stove months. So to speak.

The filter is unfinished porcelain (rough exterior) and the chamber appears to be finished porcelain. So, yes, the same composition for the chamber and the "filter".
