1 Oz samples of any blends that sound like something you may enjoy. Browse around some of the major online retailers (P&C, Smoking Pipes, Tobacco Pipes, Storytellers Pipe, Etc.) They all sell bulk blends some in 2oz increments for reasonable prices. This would give you am idea of what types of tobacco you prefer and could always cellar ones you really like later down the road.

Orlik Golden Sliced would be a nice Virginia based blend to try if you’re assembling a sampler. Inexpensive and easy smoking. Nothing fancy.

I’m starting out as well. So far I’ve tried to pick a tin of each type of tobacco, but it can be difficult due to most companies seem to mix them for flavor. I would go with the Amphora pack, it’s in my cart for next as I want to experience what pure burley, Virginia, English. Kentucky, and an aromatic are like. So far personally though, I’ve purchased Prince Albert(burley)
Peterson’s Early MorningPipe(English?)
HH Rustica
Salty Dogs(VaPer)
Warped Until the End (Virginia)
Another thing I’ve attempted, is to order different cuts of the tobacco. Ribbon, Flake, Plugs, etc. because as a beginner, I want to learn how to prep it! I’m just a newb waiting on all my first packages but that’s what Ive picked up. ymmv
