Honestly, I tried to read it, but the article is as boring as a billiard. I do have many of that shape though, and love them.

Depending on the day of the week, the billiard is my favorite shape. I guess I'd rotate with the Dublin, bulldog, and shear variety,

as alternatives. I can't decide if I love the straight or the bent billiard better. I guess the straight billiard is sort of the primordial

pipe. My chain-pipe-smoking dad nearly always bought straight billiards; those are all I remember, though I suspect he had a

bent billiard and maybe some other shape, over the years. But a straight billiard was his "thing." An English blend in a straight

billiard strikes me as some sort of fundamental pipe experience.

Great article! Much like Greg Pease, I was greatly against a straight billiard in the beginning. Now that I've "been there and done that" with a lot of different shapes, I've come to the conclusion that the billiard may well be the perfect shape! Not to say I don't enjoy my bulldogs, apples, dublins, and various other shapes I've acquired, but there's something about a billiard.

I don't love them and I don't hate them. Billiards are the vanilla of the pipe world. There are slight variations that someone with fine taste can sense but it is at home in its simplicity. Like vanilla, it's not what I pine for most of the time, but there are times when nothing else will do.
