What would you consider a normal barrel pipe price? I was poking through my first barrel of pipes at a local pipe shop and had almost picked out that nose warmer I spoke about in the other thread until I realized that they were $70 each. I envisioned a barrel pipe as $20 or so.

I'd agree with $50 tops, and in that case nothing should be melted. It seems a lot of B&M's have been raising prices to make more money... how much profit did they make on that $70 pipe that you did NOT buy?

It's like they forgot that we all have the internet and credit cards.

I went to an antique junk shop, and the guy wanted 140$ for busted up trash, I’ve also got nicer pipes for 10-15$ Canadian in junk stores. Some people are scammers and delusional. You can also make an offer you find acceptable.

I have been inside a dozen pipe shops with basket pipes for sale, I also found them to be too expensive for what they were offering. I have yet to find one that I wanted to purchase. I naively expected $10 - $30 but did not see any for that price.

Haggling with 🧺 prices is completely acceptable. A bunch of pipes in a 🧺 says make me a decent offer and it’s yours…never paid $50 for a 🧺 pipe…however with prices and these days who knows? Have a hard time imagining a seller not agreeing to $35 price on $50 listed pipe in a pile…but what the hell do I know. 😆☕

$50 seems like the limit for what I’d consider a basket pipe.

Things will always be higher at a B&M than online but I always thought of basket pipes as a way to make it easier for someone to get into pipe smoking and become a repeat customer.

Back in the eighties I bought my two Erica Peterson seconds (right, below) from a huge basket at a mall tobacco store. The owner was a bit of a gouger and I paid 15.95 0r 16.95 each. At that time other stores charged about 8.95 per pipe. I don't regret the purchase but knew I was paying more. And I did go through almost all the pipes to pick out the two I thought were most perfect for me. I still have the pipes and they are excellent smokers. About 10 years later my brother bought an Irish second (Xl339s) at a real B&M (not in a mall) for $15.00. I have that one too now. I would base current prices on what SP.com charges now as that seems to be the going price for known maker seconds. As for unknown makers ... It depends on the pipe and if you really want it I guess.

Basket pipe prices should be $35 or less in my opinion. I got one at Rich’s in PDX and it’s just killer. I had Tim West put a new stem on it and it rips.
All in I spent about $100 on it.
Wait.
Shit.
$100 is too much.
Great pipe though so whatever.
