Leave it to MLC to find this bit of arcane information. Well done sir. Maybe the Q stands for Queensland? There was a Rawling & Freak in Australia, but otherwise I've found absolutely zilch.
Perhaps the Q indicates something?
Good possibility, it's commonly abbreviated as QLD, the 150th anni was known as Q150, so it's not unheard of.Maybe the Q stands for Queensland?
This is very very very interesting indeed.I can't put my finger on it now, but I think "freak" isn't a tobacconist. I have a dim recollection it's a rarely used stamp signifying something unusual about the pipe itself.
Well, so much for that thought. Jon's point is very interesting. I'd like to see this pipe as well.Although, that shop in the pic is from down south in Adelaide, but it does suggest that the surname Freak may have been in use, perhaps another member of the Freak family had a shop up on the Gold Coast?
...all I could find, from the old Pipes Digest:...Has anyone seen, or does anyone have, a Barling Nibblick?
Interesting that it was blasted.Hello,
Does anyone have any info on a "Niblick Barling's Make 1184" (sandblasted)?
I recently bought it Pre-smoked for 15$ in Italy.
It has a great long stem and really looks like something out of
the thirties or fifties. And it smokes perfectly.
I just received this in the mail today, haven't cleaned it up one bit. It came in a batch of 18 pipes, listed on ebay as a "Job Lot", from Torquay, Devon, England. There's a bunch of nice old pipes in the mix, but that will be for another thread....... :DHere's another question. Has anyone seen, or does anyone have, a Barling Nibblick? It's listed in their product line during the 1930's and neither I, nor anyone I've spoken with, has ever actually seen one.
