I was finally able to try out my MM Doc Cob with the Savinelli Balsa Filter. I loaded the Cob with half a bowl of Lane Limited Buttered Rum. It was pretty windy, so lots of relights in the 35 minutes. I smoked it just above the shank. There was still a bit of tobacco left, but I was being cautious.

I smoked outdoors. The draw did not feel restricted in any way. No tongue bit, but a bit harsh at times, because I was puffing more than usual due to the 10 to 15 mph winds.

I let the pipe cool for a bit before removing the stem and filter. I was surprised the filter was not really that dirty. The filter did get moist though. Mind you, it was a short smoke. I thought it was gross when people said they used the same filter 3x. I can believe it depending on how long your smoke it. Im keeping mine for one more smoke. I don't smoke that often, so it's not expensive.

Here is a pic with the used Balsa on the left.

I think how "dirty" your filter gets has a lot to do with the type of tobacco and how wet it is. Most aromatics and lighter blends don't leave a lot of residue, whereas Balkan and full English have more dark smoke. I think you can use the balsa filters more than once in your cob if they aren't affecting the taste when switching blends. Relax and just enjoy your smoke!
