Back for a Look, But What Happned to Uncle Arthur?

Hi All,
I've been away from the mag and the forums for a while (maybe a couple of years) and I was just wondering what happned to Uncle Arthur? I recognise a few familiar names like Romeowood & Rigmedic. There are a lot of new facs on here, but the chat is still as good as always.

You STILL have one of the best mags in the world, Kevin. With top quality articles, great reviews and awesome forums. Well done!!

Welcome back!!!! Regarding Uncle Arthur, that is waaaaay too long a story to tell here!! Suffice it to say he left many people here in the lurch and disappeared from this forum, although he was seen activity participating in non pipe genre forums.........

Is Uncle Arthur still carving pipes? I miss him on here.

Since no one else wants to come out and say it, he stole thousands of dollars from members here. He promised pipes and never delivered any of them. The sad part is, most of them were pipes that had already been made that he posted pictures of, but never sent. He showed back up once, said he was going to send everyone their pipes, explained he had been having some serious health issues and then promptly disappeared again (without any effort made to compensate anyone).

I understand life getting in the way, health problems, money problems etc. What damned him in my mind is that while he was completely ignoring emails, phone calls, private messages and posts over here at PM, he was regularly posting to another forum under the same name, with a picture of himself etc.

There were several threats of legal action, I don't know if any of them followed through.

He owes me $200, but its only money. I would completely forgive my side of the whole thing if he made even half an attempt to make things right with any of the dozen or more others he stole from.

I don't know why he is still a member here at all. I think everyone was hoping he would prove in the end that he wasn't the worthless POS he seemed to be...

Thanks for all the welcome backs, it is good to be back, I don't post or comment very often, but I read a lot.

It's pretty easy to feel isolated here on my little island in the south Pacific (New Zealand). Pipe smoking is almost non-existant down here, so being on a forum with like-minded people is great.

Thanks for saying it lonestar. I was about to, but you had many more of the details. Yeah, he promised pipes, showed pics of the pipes, took the money, then vanished, but didn't vanish from other forums. The dude's a thief, pure and simple. And it's worse when you steal from the kind, trusting and generous folks on this site. That guy is not welcome around me, at this point even if he delivers the damn pipes. I shan't hold my breath.

OK, I will give my Uncle Arthur story. At the Chicago Pipe Show a few years ago, I got the three samples of the blends trying to match the Balkan Sobranio (sp?). After one bowl of one of the blends, I knew it wasn't for me. I offered UA a trade of the three samples for whatever he wanted to give. He agreed, and I sent the samples out. He offered a couple choices, and I said OK, but he then needed to wait for another shipment, etc. Finally, I wrote it off as a small loss. Then a package arrived containing lots of samples. I suppose I came out ahead.
