If you're going to be anywhere near Foggy Bottom, Georgetown Tobacconist has pipes, tins, store blends, and a great staff. Though there is no "Lounge", you can smoke in there.

If you'll be downtown, closer to the capitol, there's the historic W Curtis Draper's - Americas third oldest tobacconist (behind Iwan Reis and LJ Peretti). Decent selection of pipes, tins, and bulk tobaccos. Despite the comfy chairs scattered about, you can not smoke in there.

There are a few others in the city and suburbs on both the Maryland and Virginia sides, tho they are mostly cigar lounges. Some will have pipe stuff, some won't.

I'll also take this opportunity to mention the retail directory on this very site. We are all able to post store info and reviews to help each other out when planning visits.

Thank you for the recommendations!
I'm sitting at Georgetown Tobacco right now, smoking a pipe. This is a very nice place!

Dang, I was just down in DC at the zoo and the mall 2 weekends ago and drove home through Georgetown. I could have stopped at either of these shops. I am sure that my wife and kids would have been thrilled to stop

Davidus Cigars has a nice selection of pipes and pipe tobaccos. They have 13 stores in Maryland.

So sorry I missed this! This is my turf haha: I live in Greenbelt, MD. By far the best tobacconist in the DC area is Chesapeake Pipe and Cigar in Annapolis. If you have a car, it's definitely worth it a 30 minute drive. They have loads. Otherwise, Georgetown Tobacco in Georgetown is pretty good. A little sparse/small. W. Curtis Draper near the White House had a great selection as far as I can remember, but they only have banker's hours (9-5 Monday to Friday). I haven't been there in a while.

Hey sorry I should've read the thread. I got excited and posted before I saw you went to Gtown. I never run into pipe smokers anywhere I go in this area. I'm glad they have the smoking lounge back! It was closed for a long time. I'd still recommend going out to Chesapeake Pipe and Cigar if you can. and have the desire. They have a HUGE selection, including a bunch of Gawith and Hoggarth and Samuel Gawith blends. I bought Saint James Plug there recently for example. A quirky set of guys hang out there too.

Thanks! I would not have had the opportunity to go to Chesapeake P&C this time since family had other plans, but I will try to go there next time I'm in the area.
