Hi all,

I am been dragged to see the (common) in-laws this weekend (hardly a drag, they're lovely), and was wondering if anyone knows any good purveyors of fine pipe tobacco in the area?

As an aside, is there a list of British B&Ms about somewhere?

Thanks!

Bacon Bros. A tobacconist of legendary status, with a clientele of Royals, Toffs, Students & Spies! Closed now of course but they've got a nice plaque where the shop used to stand.
image.jpegI think there's a Robert Graham shop there, somewhere in the town.

It's a shame they are closed. I was hoping for a more 'open' variety! If I come across the site, I'll try not to let a ghost get in my pipe.

They seem to be mainly cigars & whisky but i'd be surprised if they don't have a selection of pipe tobacco. Their website certainly does.

Remove the Bacon Brothers plaque and persistent legend says you’ll find a sealed vault crammed with cutter top tins of Balkan Sobranie, Gale’s Presbyterian Mixture, Mitchell’s 3 Nuns, John Cotton 1&2, Marcovitch, Gallaher’s Rich Dark Honeydew, Carreras’ Craven Mixture, Cope’s Escudo, Dunhill’s Standard Mixture Full, Richard Lloyd’s Bondman, Murray’s Erinmore, and rather surprisingly an impressively large stash of Holly’s Non Plus Ultra.

Cambridge is possibly my most beloved place in the world. Lived, studied and worked there for 4 years. I looked it up, they have a lot of G&H loose.

Make a point to go to the Cambridge Cheese Company

Thanks for the tip @jguss. I'll be going by there with a chisel and blowtorch this evening.

I know a lot of people who describe their time in Cambridge among the most treasured in their life, myself included. The place is magical.

Re bolded. I know the place, passed in front of it every day for 4 years (lived in Chesterton Road) but never went in. Something about it made me think it'd be stupidly expensive and not good.

Fitzbillies were and are top, in fact you may know that it was about to close but students, staff and alumni pulled together to pay off their debts so it stayed open. That and the Fudge Kitchen for sugar+fat bombs :) Also we used to go to Dojo's, Chinese greasy spoon with huge portions. Or the bangers and mash in the Green Dragon down the river, or the scones in The Orchard. I am hungry now and awfully nostalgic.

I agree a magical time and place.
I lived on Riverside my daily commute into the office took me five minutes across Midsummer Common on my trusty three speed Rayleigh Superbe.
I went everywhere on that bike it had a good front dynamo which was useful when crossing the common after pub closing time in winter
