Barkar, I'm sure it'll be that way across the country soon enough.
Yup, I would definitely agree there. I wonder if they will also be required to drop the NRT's and E-Cigs; or if those will still be considered OK because big-phama has a hand in them (that's rhetorical, btw...I already know the answer).

in this state (texas) the taxes are pretty high--most of the drug stores here have nothing but their bulk blends (the ones sold by Walgreen and CVS)--occasionally the may have Captain Black--
the supermarkets keep a few old American classics--PA,CH,Half and Half, SWR and SWRA in pouch and tub, but you really must NEED it to purchase--they average about $50 per tub--
i was in the local B&M the other day--he asked me if i would let him order for me--after talking it over, it wasn't feasible--the $30 (plus or minus a buck or so) per pound i pay for my Old Joe, HB, Morley's Best et al would just cover the tax he has to charge me--i'd love to support the local, but my income is fixed in retirement--that same day i picked up a tin of MM965--i didn't look at price till i got to the register with it--i bought it, but i was reminded of why i mainly buy in bulk--
i have mentioned before that my 'cellar' isn't so much for aging tobac as it is for stockpiling a supply before i get priced completely out of the market--maybe it is hoarding, but for me it's a defensive strategy--
this reminds me, i need another 2 pounds of Morley's Best :)

paranoia is setting in. I also am starting to stockpile my new fave blend, 7 seas regular. 26$ a lb. at 5lb. bulk prices 29$ for single lbs. I can remember when drugstores had huge inventories of pipes and baccy in the 50s & 60s. ah the good old days. They got up & went. My goal is to have 40lbs in da cellar. hmmm, maybe I will need more than that. Better order. The heavy tax on tobacco is a slippery slope. What is next? Just yesterday, in NYC, Bloomberg legislated that you can't buy a 32 0z. devil sugar soda. Give me a break, spare me. Do you think one could buy 2 16 oz?? Of course aspartame drinks are just fine. Im truely surprised that the smoking instrment (briars) arent heavily taxed as the devils tool.

Here in Nevada, I get my "drug store" 'baccys from the Tribal Smoke Shop. There is a Paiute Reservation just a few blocks from downtown Las Vegas. Massive Cigar Humidor. PA, Velvet,Cherry Blend, SWR, all the Capt's, etc.. in pouches and tubs. I probably sound like a commercial but these guys are the real deal.
Look around your area, if there is a Reservation around, check the smoke shop. One of my greatest finds was at a Reservation on the AZ-NM border. The TeePee Gift/Smoke Shop. Passed all the Dreamcatchers and Chinese-made Indian Blankets and found a wall filled with sleeves of Murray's Dunhill tins and the last tins of Edgeworth Sliced I think, on the planet. The Edgeworth is now in my Zombie Apocalypse Cellar but I smoked all the Dunhill that I could afford. Searches like these are part of why I enjoy this hobby so much. :puffy:

(+1) lobrox. although it isn't a Reservation.
I purchase my "drug store" tobacco at our Smoker Friendly smoke shop. All other purchases I make thru Pipes and Cigars, which I learned about here while I was lurking. (I really do love those guys. Big thumbs up for Scotty & Crew.)
So far it hasn't happened, and I certainly hope it doesn't, but I would hate to see internet tobacco purchases head south.

1+ on pipes and cigars. They have some good deals there, I recently got some Prince Albert, Captain black White and Royal, and a top rolling machine. They shipped it and three days later I was smoking what I ordered. Great service, great people to deal with. I'll be shopping there again. :)

went to the place above, yesterday. First time I had been there, even though it is about a 1/2 hour drive from the house.
Great selection of pipes. From Dunhills and Petes down to MM's in a basket. They also do a cigar humidor, lighters, and accessories of different types.
They had a sign on the door for 20% off on all pipes and pipe accerories.
Bought my wife a no-name Italian churchwarden that was listed at $20, 1 oz. of a tobacco she wanted to try that the lady behind the counter recommended (the store is, and has been, completely female run for years), and a bundle of long cleaners for the pipe.
Total bill was $23.95
Not bad at all.
Then we sat in the small smoking section, and I struck up a conversation with a local defense attorney who was smoking a cigar, and we bantered about the differences between defending criminals and watching over them.

crpntr1,

You can buy tins in Texas.

I've done so from time to time.

They kill you with high taxes.

That's why I shop online!
