I'm sure I saw a Norman Rockwell image or something similar which triggered this response. When I have to rake the leaves every fall, I find the task much more pleasant accompanied by my pipe.

I'll load up an easy to clench briar, perhaps with a Virginia flake and take a Zippo lighter, since they are less affected by the breeze and puff away as I rake up the leaves.

Somehow, I feel like leaning on my rake, wearing a flannel shirt and tamping the ember with my finger, makes the season seem just perfect.

After biting off a piece of my clay pipe during working around I'm a little soured with that experience.
But I love to take walks with a pipe in my mouth. Still, a pipe at home in my armchair by my little cabinet will still be the best experience.

It would be a better habit to get into if I could only get motivated to actually rake up the leaves and pine straw🤣. For now I guess that I will spend another weekend sitting on my back porch smoking a pipe and trying to “will” them into piles!

Just don't get the idea to ignite it with your pipe! Then again I don't know what kinda guy you are. 😁

@Chaukisch I've never bitten a piece off my clay pipe stem; I'd know about it if I did:)
I never clench my clays; I don't want to get pipe notches!
I think I'm going to confuse future historians as my living room's furnished in the style of a medieval Great Hall and my cul de sac is built on land that used to part of a medieval manor's estate.
