Wow! I feel so lucky. I just spent about an hour outside watching this, too. A friend told my partner it was over their place about an hour south of us. I wonder if it was here all night. I took a pipe out with some Autumn Evening to watch the lights.
When I lived in Minnesota this was a fairly common, and beautiful, sight.

True, but they normally don’t have the intensity and colors as this event produced.
I heard on television that they could be seen from some points in Spain. What I find worrying is the sneeze that the sun spit out. I have never had the opportunity to contemplate such a spectacle. The closest thing was once seeing a brass spittoon flying over my head, on my angry grandfather's farm.
Those were just some glorious views you got. Damn shame I missed it.
We had some heavy cloud cover in NE Ohio, but I managed to get few good shots. It was beautiful.

Thanks Craig. Your pictures look amazing. I have spent several evening chasing high aurora alert warnings only to be disappointed. This event was amazing. There were other people out and about at midnight although I found a very peaceful spot only 5 mins walk from my front door. Most people from my town were heading to a prominent lookout spot. There would have been dozens of people and car headlights spoiling it. I was jelous recently as I viewed the solar eclipse that crossed North America from a distance. Although I am unlikely to experience a total solar eclipse in my lifetime, this felt like an excellent substitute.
