A full bent tomato, classy! I'll be honest Fred, I don't think I'd have the cajones to put a match to those pipes.
For brunch and lunch, bowls of P.A. and Germain's Royal Jersey in GBD bulldogs.
Now, C&D's Bayou Morning in a Butz-Choquin bulldog.

fred,

I love looking at these threads to see what everyone's smoking, but your posts are always an extra treat, just for the sheer variety of Meerschaums you have! I'm sure I'm not alone when I humbly ask for an article or thread where you tell us about your pipes (e.g. where you got it, what drew you to it, etc.). Also I think it'd be great if you could give some of us pointers on things to look for in a good meer, or what brands/makers are of good quality. Thanks!

Good evening. It's Royalty in the Golden Horn.

http://pipesmagazine.com/members/fred/album/picture/540

This Pipe I acquired as an unsmoked Estate. It was originally purchased

at a Tinderbox in Raleigh NC, back in '72. I acquired it from the grandson

of the buyer thru an e-bay transaction. It is simply the highest quality

Golden Horn that I've seen, both in grade of Block and craftsmanship. I

believe that the same Carver made some Pipes for CAO, as I've seen this exact

style in Pipes that they offered during the same time period. The Golden Horn

Meerschaum has the yellow amberoid bit, while the CAO has the dark lucite bit

that bears their logo. A good Figural should have expression and this one

does it exceptionally well.
Thanks Cortezattic. I buy Pipes to smoke, so it's all about functional art.

Lordnoble, there's an article in the works and should be posted in the near

future concerning Meerschaum acquisition and care.
