Yeah thats not Steve. Pretty baffling to see somebody title their auction the same way he does. I guess they're not breaking any rules though so nothing could be done.
They've could've at least tried harder with the pictures.

It might be a mistake on the part of the seller. When you list an item that someone else sold and poach their listing the title stays the same. He or she might not have noticed or understood that. Or they might be trying to pull one over on the buyer…

Thanks for the heads up gentlemen! Unfortunately, this happens from time to time and when I am notified, I hit the "Report this Listing" section of the auction and tell eBay that the seller is doing what eBay calls a violation of their Search Manipulation Policy found here: Search manipulation policy - https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-policies/search-browse-manipulation-policy?id=4243

Sometimes eBay gets to the auctions in time to end them and other times those fake Pipestud auctions run to their conclusion. And the guy may have used a title of mine but I've sure never listed that pipe before. Thanks to the heads up by AJL 65 I was able to go to the listing and report the listing as a Search Manipulation Policy violation. Whether it stays up or goes away is anybody's guess.

Thanks again Gents,
Steve

Glad to help, don't need other people damaging your rep, didn't even think of they would do that for search result purposes, the more you know!

Yup, some lazy asshole is just piggy-backing on the famous name.

To save time, experienced shoppers have learned to go straight to ebay and cut through the category layers, extra clicks & screens of a website, and so forth by entering "pipestud".

Nothing more is needed to get a scrolling list of his offerings.

INCLUDING the piggy backers, whose stuff is embedded in his (now that they've discovered the trick):

Sadly looks like that pipe is still listed. Wonder how long it takes them to action a complain
Unfortunately it can take a concerted effort to get eBay to do something about fake auctions.. They need to get a lot of complaints before they will take any sort of action. They just either lack the staff, or don't give a damn, and if they lack the staff it's because they don't give a damn.

To give you an example, a few years ago some crook in China was posting auctions where he literally copied all of the images from high end auctions, rewrote the descriptions, and posted his fake recreations with ridiculously low prices, like Eltangs for $20.

Now you would think that people would smell a rat, but you would be wrong. There's no shortage of idiots who think the seller has made a mistake and they're going to take advantage of it because they're so smart...

the dum dums...

@craiginthecorn brought the situation to our attention on the forum, and I started reporting these fake listings and got others to do the same. For days eBay did nothing as one fake listing after another ensnared idiots and it took a couple of weeks of constant alerts from a bunch of us to get eBay to finally shut the guy down. Of course he simply opened a new account and picked right up where he'd left off. So I dogged the bastard for over a year, filing complaints every time he resurfaced after hiding for a couple of weeks. eBay would shut him down, he'd wait a week or more and reopen under a new account, I'd file reports, and eBay would shut him down again. Rinse and repeat.

After a year of whack-a-mole he finally stopped and I kept watch for a few more months before moving on to other things.

Ebay is a modern-day version of the wild wild west, incapable or unwilling to police itself. Not a surprise given the funding model it uses. Hard to know who or what to trust and as a general rule I don't patronize Ebay.

I noticed a Sasieni auction last week, using one of Deadmans pictures, reported it and notified him (it showed an 8 Dot Sasieni listed as 4 Dot. Someone bid the minimum, I suspect they will never see the pipe (or at least the one pictured)

How low can they go? This really is disgusting.
