Some may disagree, but I I've been a fan of their productions
I like their stuff too. The tobacco’s great and they keep the stems and veins to a minimum. Wish they were more consistent though and wouldn’t mess with things such as toppings and inserting darkfired Kentucky where they see fit.

I get that. The decreased demand has certainly created a slump, but their price and quality still seem reasonable for the modern market.
Since they have acquired so many smaller brands over the years a fun game is to see how many of the same exact tobaccos they can tin and slap a different sub-brand's label on it. There is still great blends don't get me wrong you would be surprised how often this is happening now. Wondering what STG Tobaccos already being produced will just get Mac Barren titles slapped on the tins in 6 months or so.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that for the foreseeable future, due to tax and import laws, things will remain the same in name and distribution. It makes a lot of sense to get different continent's producers together to make for a bigger pot of money, an improved supply line and differentiated tax burdens.

I hope you are right but if you already have your suppliers, palettes of tobacco, in-house blenders, and packing machinery why bother? Seems it would be easier just to change the blend and approximate with what you have in hand as so many others have done, but I agree Mac Barren is such a varied and beloved line it certainly would be a shame if that's what goes down.

Again, being too optimistic here. It's a lot more expensive with shipping globally now to replace supply lines and manufacturing and move it across the world. Make no mistake, it will get worse, but I'm not sure how fast or radically they'll make the change.

The Upshot:

Pipe tobacco will continue to drop in quality and increase in price.
It's the current trend, but things can change. Maybe by the time it's all said and done one of these European companies will sell Sutliff or C&D some hot pressing machinery and a then a boom could happen here.

Well, I was going to write my usual doom and gloom reply here, but then I found this. It’s just one market projection study, and you never know just who wrote it and what their motives are, but….

Sorry, that’s just pipes, not tobacco
