I’m just spitballing here,The only objective measurement of temperature is with a thermometer.
Studies have shown only infinitesimal differences in measured temperature due to length of shank/stem
Short pipe vs long pipe: is it possible the smoke is the same temperature but you are getting more heat from the ember in a short pipe?
Let me frame it differently, I’m guessing smoke consists of particulate, moisture, and air. Is it possible the air is at a different temperature and changes temperature at a different rate than the particulate and moisture?
