Title edited: Caps! Read Rule 9.

I am looking for some help, as I can't find a picture online. I was wondering if anyone owns an Ascorti business pipe of the year 2004. If someone does, I am wondering if you could post some pictures. I just got an estate and I would like to compare the stems. On mine, the stem is not flush with the stummel. It does have the Ascorti style to it, but I wonder if its a poor replacement or even from a different pipe. I am skeptical that this 'defect' was intentional. Thanks for any insight you can provide!

First step: Your clear photos!

Did you already clean the mortise really well?
Yes! Crud can build up in the mortise bottom where the end of the tennon rests. Any crud there will prevent the mouthpiece from inserting all the way. Sometimes it can be packed really tight from years of age. The more the stem is removed the better the chance of build up.

To the dremel! And make haste!

Sorry for the delay, I fell ill this week. Thanks for the comments. The pipe certainly needs to be thoroughly cleaned. I'll be sending it to someone to do it properly, and maybe make a stem. But the issue is the width of the outside of the stem, it isn't flush. So, I don't think cleaning will help. Maybe that's not a big deal, but with the tooth marks, it might just be better to get a replacement made. 20241019_143658.jpg20241019_143644.jpg

Oh, that's a different story. I was thinking it didn't fit flush. That seems it's not the original mouthpiece. It looks like a shank extension, does it twist out?
It doesn't seem to twist. I have an Ascorti "Extension" that doesn't seem to come off either. It would be nice if it did for cleaning purposes. I think I will try to write Ascorti to see about a new stem. There was a post here about 2 years back that said he was still replacing them. So, hopefully that is still true.

Oops! That stem does not go with that pipe. That is a marriage. A really poor one.
The trouble is that I love the bend of this stem, it is basically at 90 degrees. I imagine that a full bend is more difficult to fashion. Sometimes oom paul stem will be at 60 degrees or so.

I thought it could have an aftermarket extension, you never can tell what someone may do. The bend on a new mouthpiece is no big deal. Easy to do with some heat.

It looks like a "replacement" was made from an existing stem from a different pipe... the tenon tuned to fit but nothing else. Besides the oversize barrel, there's no trademark "A" on it, either.

FWIW, new stems that look original / are undetectable can be made for stummels.

Here is a cousin of your pipe (a Cavicchi) whose owner didn't like the short barrel for visual balance reasons, so decided to "stretch" it while leaving everything else alone.

This pipe is gorgeous. What is the name and where did you buy it from?
