A lot of comments in this thread seem kind of like the pot calling the kettle black. Many people on this forum, young or old, seem to be tied to their computer screens. What differnce does it make if it is a forum or social media.
Are we that much better then the "zombies" because we're on a forum rather than social media?

The postal service, the radio, the telephone, the television, the computer... we didn't start the fire... We've been growing apart FAR before the cell phone.
While true, what you didn't mention is that both the efficiency and saturation of the communication is increasing at an exponential rate.
Once the "hockey stick" upward curve begins (speaking of graphic representations), the line goes asymptotic to the y axis shortly thereafter. In short, an exponential increase is indistinguishable from a detonation.
That changes everything...

Any person we see walking down the street with their PDA stuffed in their face, should have them taken away and stuffed up their ass, then we sit them down for half an hour and explain what the real world is.

I'm not sure what you are saying, here. Please stop trying to be so sensitive.

I can't get past the fact this just old people bitching about the new generation. I'm 44 and have been hearing the same gripes since the dawn on the PC, each claiming that their complaint carries a legitimacy due to saturation. How can you not see the insane irony? They're not alienating anyone. You are. They communicate FAR more than you. How it's done means nothing because YOU don't matter. Their peers and how they communicate matter, not those who came before. If you think you were any different you're kidding yourself.
Cigmaster... A PDA?!?! old much?

For myself, I am on the PC at work. I am stuck most of the day printing on a 4x8 flatbed printer. I have to stay here most of the time in case the media lifts off the vacuum bed and causes destruction of the print heads.
When I am not ripping print files from images, I spend most of my time surfing the net. :D

The ultimate and final demarcation will be when some type of physical implant is required to access and participate in this thing we call the web. I won't be surprised if that happens in my lifetime...and if/when it does, I will be off-line for good.

I'll be first in line for implants. My factory equipment is no longer acceptable as it tends to sputter and spew at inopportune moments.

Sure they do... while their collective heads are bent at a 90 degree angle over a cell phone texting each other. Take away their cell phone and they would shrivel up in a fetal position and whimper for help, that is IF they can still verbally communicate. Now, with that said get off my f'ing lawn.

I don't know which Facebook competitor employed "SimilarWeb" but they seem to be the only "study" reporting decreased usage. Stats are like you-know-whats, twist them to your liking. The chart on the number of new users looks as steep as Mt. Everest. The general media outlooks just regurgitate this stuff like it was gospel - does anyone confirm stories any more?

I read an article recently which stated that traffic signals would also be put into the sidewalks so that people on their cell phones would notice them. That is very sad and will cost lots of money.

All the kids left facebook for instagram, forums have had their time, it's just us dinosaurs. If anything forums where you can sign in with social media (which there are) could gain.

We will have media implants within 20 years, with the early adapters getting them in the next 10 or so. These implants will do everything that a smartphone can currently do times 100. They will monitor our health status and have the capability to control an already injected series of nanobots to fix problems as they occur, thus ending most diseases, repairing wounds and generally stop aging as we currently know it. Like it or not, we as a species are on our way to a synthesis with "computers" it is all but inevitable.
