Thanks for all the great suggestions! Especially the ones for self-preservation. Duly noted.
I'm starting to look forward to the challenge.

Bundle up. The garage if it is windy. I might add a space heater this year.

I have no outdoor space as i live in a flat on the 3rd floor with no balcony in London.
Try to sit next to your window and just put a fan on low blowing the smoke through the open window! I throw a fleece blanket on my girlfriend, put on a toque and can still enjoy my pipe while watching a movie or listening to music!
(My next place will have to have some outdoor space though - here's hoping for a pay rise!) :puffy:

It's part of my renters' agreement, yes. It's a private dwelling though, not a multi-unit building. I smoke once or twice a week and I've been told it's undetectable.
...ethically I probably shouldn't be willingly infringing on my renters' agreement...

I've gotta smoke outside or in the garage. I guess I make out okay.
Cosmic, that's great idea. When I have a place of my own it shall be done.

This sounds near perfect. That high up and the smoke will (probably?) bother no one.
And here I was thinking that a "toque" was what Cheech & Chong did...
A name for a knitted hat that one would wear during the winter. Americans call it a beanie.

My first year in, I smoked outside in all kinds of weather. Since I travel, that meant standing in the cold outside a hotel in NJ/PA/NJ. To be honest, none of that was much fun.
My 2nd year in, I converted some garage space into a smoking area. I have a small space heater and the garage is insulated. I'm comfortable until it dips below 25 degrees. On those days, I just don't smoke anymore, its just not enjoyable. I figure the down time is good for me and makes me appreciate the spring/summer and fall all the more. Last winter was tough and by far the longest cold stretches that I've experienced. If I get another one like that, I may be heading South!

The problem here is the summer, which makes being outside for long sort of unpleasant. Although I suppose you could smoke in the pool or something. Isn't there some in-between halfway apart from both too cold and too hot?
Oh, right. Southern California.

Cosmic has a great idea, but I'm afraid I would burn the house down if I got my hands on an electrical wire and started fiddling with it near an outlet or some such.
It does get cold in In East Tennessee. One winter, years ago, the temp dropped to -20F. We thought a new ice age had descended upon us.
I just suit up, put on hat, scarf, sweater, a couple of long sleeve shirts, heavy mittens that fold back so I can use my fingers, boots, thick socks, space heater, blanket or two, and sit out on the deck.
Hey, it beats not smoking my pipe, which my wife hates.

I grab my Pipe coat, gloves, boots, scarfs, earmuffs, whatever and head out. If it is still cold I also have the space heater in the garage. If its cold in the garage with the space heater then it isn't smoking weather. Time for a can of cope, it satisfies.

We have an indoor wood stove, I bring wood up from our barn every other day with our ATV.

One of my favorite times is to sit in the barn and smoke my pipe after loading up the wood.
It is quite almost sunset and wonderful, wish I was there now.
I do smoke a bit in the house, but I make sure my wife is agreeable to the smell. It limits my

choice a bit, but its fine with me. Our grandfathers smoked pipes it brings back good memories.

Build yourself a little smoke shanty and put a space heater and radio in there. Problem solved. I got the garage about ready. Need more stuff put away.

I smoke in my house so my smoking doesn't have to cease. When I'm at work or out and about in cold weather, I usually just slip on the old pea coat. Warm enough and if there's wind, flip up the massive collar, perhaps a scarf if it's really nasty. Up here in the Smokies it may snow, but it rarely gets into the single digits, though we have had our occasional -20 days, so nothing too bad.

My other passion, astrophotography, sees its best nights when it's coldest. It's an issue I deal with all winter. It's milder here in Bama, but still an issue. Trying various coats, gloves, heaters, etc... If you figure out how to stop cold, please do let us know! Stopping isn't an option.

I have 2 smoking jackets; one for the summer (a thin thing that keeps out the smell when I am back inside), and one for the winter (insulated with pockets for my gloves and hat). Can't imagine not smoking during the winter just because it is a bit cold. Even in Northern Virginia it gets nippy out, albeit not like the US-Canadian border! A nice hot cup of tea helps...
